Laboratory of Paleontology and Paleoecology-01.png

The Laboratory of Paleontology and Paleoecology of the Natural History Society (SHN) has the appropriate technical and scientific skills to research and manage paleontological heritage.

Besides having a team of associated researchers and permanent researchers (national and international), this laboratory provides its members with the possibility of dealing with handling, treating, preparing and managing fossil collections that make up its collection.

In addition to these activities, productive field activity has highlighted a set of new deposits containing osteological remains of dinosaurs.

Educational Department-01.png

The Natural History Society's Education and Training Department's main objectives are organising and implementing a training and workshop plan and promoting pedagogical activities adapted to a diverse target audience.

It aims to provide a range of training opportunities in different areas, also allowing direct contact and appreciation of the region's existing heritage, particularly the Institution's paleontological and archaeological collection.

In this way, a set of activities related to different areas are being studied, such as Paleontology, Archaeology, Biology and Geology, for which we count on the contribution of experts in the field and professionals in the educational field.

Currently, the department has the necessary resources to carry out a wide variety of geographical projects, namely GPS with centimeter precision differential, IT resources and respective software and a database of digital cartographic information. Regarding software, open source platforms are favored - QGIS, GRASS, GVSIG, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, among others.

The resources made available by this Department can be used by any partner who needs these resources for their projects and investigations, and initial training is also available.
